Ampleforth: This is a co-educational day and boarding school for 572 pupils aged 11 to 18. 11+ entry – although the school is broadly non-selective there is an assessment day comprising tests in English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. 13+ entry is either through 13+ Common Entrance or via Ampleforth’s own assessment papers for students not studying towards Common Entrance. All Common Entrance candidates are expected to achieve at least an average mark of 50%. From 2021 students will complete a computerised pre-test. 16+ entry – the first step is to visit the school or attend a Skype interview if overseas. A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 5 and two at grade 6 are required. If studying BTECs a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 are required. There are scholarships available by examination offering 10% remission on fees.
