Magdalen College School
Magdalen College School: This is a boys day school with 902 pupils and girls in the sixth form only. 11+ entrance exams are held in January of Year 6 (age 10-11). Candidates are tested in: Verbal Reasoning, Maths (based on Level 5 of the National Curriculum), an English Composition (a fiction and non-fiction essay) and most will also have a 30-minute interview. This depends on their test performance. 13+ entrance: Be aware that this starts with compulsory pre-tests at 11+. In fact, all candidates sit the same papers as the 11+ entry candidates in January of Year 6 (age 10-11). Following this, candidates may be offered a conditional place at 13+ Entry. This will be dependant on their performance in the 13+ Common Entrance Exams (expectation is an average of 70% at MCS) or with Academic Scholarship exams at 13+. If boys are not at a prep school, they may take the school’s own exam at 13+. 16+ entry is in November of Year 11 with interviews and a verbal reasoning test. A reference is also requested and GCSE grades required are a minimum of six grade 8 or 9 at GCSE including 8 or 9 in A-Level subjects. Scholarships are available and pupils are awarded £300 per year towards the school fees. Overseas students may need to take a written paper. For entry to the sixth form an IELTS score of level 7 or higher is expected.
