Merchant Taylors' School
Merchant Taylors' School: This is a day school for 909 boys aged 11 to 18. 11+ applications need to be made by the end of October when your son is in Year 6 (age 10-11). 11+ exams take place in the second week in January (Year 6) and consist of English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning. These exams are set by Merchant Taylors' School. They do not use the 11+ ISEB papers. Following these 11+ exams, boys who have reached the required standard will be asked back for an interview. A report from the current school is also requested. 13+ applications currently need to be made by the end of February when your son is in Year 7(age 11-12). All applicants are called for interview in September/October of Year 8 (age 12-13). Following the interviews, boys will be invited back to sit the entrance exams at the end of January (Year 8) in English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French/German or Spanish, Latin and Verbal Reasoning. Merchant Taylors' School does not use ISEB 13+ Common Entrance Exams but rather creates its own assessments. From 2022 the 13+ admission arrangements are changing and boys must take papers in English, Maths and a general paper in Year 6. They will also be interviewed and unconditional offers may be made. The exams in Year 8 will only be for setting. 16+ entry requires a report and GSCE predictions with a minimum of 7 grades at 8 or 9. Exams must be taken in the 4 proposed A-level subjects. Interviews are held and offers are conditional on set grades at GCSE. Scholarships at 11+ and 13+ are a minimum value of 10% and sixth form scholarships are 50% discount on fees. International students must take the exam at the school.
