University College School
University College School: This is a boys day school for 877 boys aged 11 to 18 with a co-educational sixth form. 11+ entry for University College Junior School boys need no further tests. Boys from other schools take written exams in January of Year 6 in English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. A classroom activity, interview and report is also required. For 13+ entry, boys will be required to sit 13+ Common Entrance exams at the end of Year 8 (age 12-13). However, prior to this, be aware that they will need to pass pre-tests in Year 6 (age 10-11). This will involve papers in Maths (calculations and problems), Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and English (a comprehension and essay). If successful, they will be invited to attend a day of interview and activities. Candidates may secure a conditional place and will then take the 13+ Common Entrance at the end of Year 8. 16+ entry is possible for 35 girls and a small number of boys. An exam is taken along with a report from the current school with GCSE predictions. Interviews take place and offers are conditional on GCSE results with an average grade of 6.5 or higher. There are no scholarships but there are means tested bursaries.
